He was a prolific writer both in English and Assamese, and authored 116 books on 15 distinct subjects that include ancient literature, heritage, ethnicity, economy, political science, education, religion, philosophy, poetry, drama, mythology, travelogue, folk culture, tribal life and rural society. In his illustrious career, besides the all-India level assignment in New Delhi as a top India Government bureaucrat, Principal Bhabananda Deka adorned the offices of Principal of six post-graduate level academic institutions, inter alia, Guwahati-based Pragjyotish College, Bapujee College, Sarthebari; Tamulichiga College, Jorhat; Hajo Teachers Education College; Sarukhetri College, Barkapla and Guwahati Night College. He had been bestowed with Golden Jubilee Literary Award of India's Independence in 1997 by Government of Assam, and Literary Pension in 2004 by the same government.
