Reviews

Deering and Lentz compose a veritable love letter to the sandwich, including recipes for (and tidbits about) more than 50 examples, from basic bologna to tuna melts, reubens, and cheesesteaks. Lentz works in a brash, comic-book style: sauces and cheese ooze from the completed sandwiches on left-hand pages, while exploded versions of each sandwich showcase the individual layers and components.-- ""Publishers Weekly"" STARRED REVIEW! A tasty offering with more than 50 recipes covering five skill levels--there's something here for everyone. . . .No matter the difficulty level, instructions are clear and easy to understand. Lentz (illustrator of the board book series ""Book-O-Hats"") has adeptly created sharp, appealing, and clever illustrations: sandwiches are deconstructed in midair to help inspiring chefs visualize each layer. . . .With a fun and visually fascinating approach, this collection is everything that a young people's cookbook should be. Libraries, add this delicious treat today!-- ""School Library Journal"" This fun and educational nonfiction smorgasbord introduces 140 kinds of sandwiches, divided into 5 levels of difficulty to prepare, from those only needing a plate and knife to those requiring extra cooking and prep work. Double-page spreads feature a description of the sandwich, a large, boldly colored representation, and a graphic of its different layers. Hate mayo on a BLT? The visual recipe also includes substitutions and add-ons to accommodate both picky and adventurous eaters, as well as useful preparation tips and serving suggestions. . . .There's something for every eater in this savory study.-- ""Booklist Online""
