OverviewMateriality of Roman religion remains among the most striking and evocative features of our museums, archaeological parks, and ancient urban landscapes. This volume presents a selection of sanctuaries from the Danubian provinces, recently investigated and interpreted through cutting-edge field archaeological methodologies and approaches of religious studies. Following a methodological introduction, three main chapters offer in-depth analyses by leading archaeologists and scholars of religion in Central and Eastern Europe. These studies explore the continuity of pre-Roman religious traditions, the role of epigraphic and figurative sources in space sacralisation, and the impact of urban religion on religious communication in sacralised spaces.
