Edgar A. Gamboa, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Over the course of his distinguished medical career, he has served as a surgeon, educator, and clinical leader in both the United States and the Philippines. He is also a Senior Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America.Dr. Gamboa's academic formation includes degrees in medicine from the Cebu Institute of Medicine and a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of Notre Dame, where he pursued studies in Scripture, Catholic doctrine, and the integration of faith and pastoral practice. His work reflects a lifelong commitment to uniting the best of medical science with a profoundly Catholic understanding of the human person.He is a Knight of Magistral Grace of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, a Knight Commander with Star of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. A native of the Philippines, Dr. Gamboa resides in Northern California with his wife, Lucie-his classmate at the Cebu Institute of Medicine in the 1970s. They are the parents of four children and the grandparents of two, Olivia and Emma. His first book, Virtuous Healers (2008), has been used in the medical ethics curriculum of the Cebu Institute of Medicine and continues to inspire students, clinicians, and Catholic healthcare professionals around the world.
