Overview"Throughout this Prayer Book are notes in green to explain the principles, services, prayers, and other matters to those who might not be familiar with them. Services include Baptism, which marks the beginning of life with Jesus Christ as Lord; Holy Communion, also called Holy Eucharist (from the Greek Ευχαριστώ [eucharisto], meaning ""I give thanks""); The Ordinal, which has the procedures for ordaining new clerics; and Pastoral Services, which provide for Marriage, Confirmation, and Burial services. The book contains the elements of traditional Anglican liturgical worship with the addition of the eucharistic prayers of Saint Serapion, Bishop of Thmuis (ca. 339-360). He was a close friend of Saint Athanasius of Alexandria and staunchly defended Orthodoxy against Arianism earning him the title ""Confessor"" by Saint Jerome. The prayers written by Serapion were found in an 11th century manuscript at the Great Lavra on Mount Athos and represent one of the earliest extant liturgical expressions. One of the unique features of this Anaphora is a ""Word"" epiclesis, which is found in several other Eastern and Gallican liturgical Rites. May this Prayer Book be a blessing to all that use it."
