Safora: A Stranger in the Exodus

Overview

Safora never meant to follow the Prophet. When her brother leaves their Midian home, chasing rumors of a stranger who speaks of God and freedom, Safora fears for him and crosses the desert to Egypt, determined to bring him back. But Egypt is bigger, harsher, and more dangerous than she imagined. When she finally finds her brother, he has changed-calmer, stronger, and unwilling to return. When the Prophet calls the people to leave Egypt, Safora follows, still hoping to persuade her brother to come home. But as Pharaoh's army closes in and the people stand trapped at the Sea of Reeds, Safora must choose: return to the life she knows, or step forward into something uncertain. In the end, she learns that some roads do not lead back home-they lead forward into a future she never expected.

Author Information

Shariff J. O'Hara is a novelist of sacred history and contested memory, known for crafting multi-faith narratives that place ordinary lives at the heart of pivotal religious events. His fiction explores how belief, loyalty, and conscience are tested when spiritual ideals collide with political power. Blending Islamic, Christian, and Jewish traditions with intimate character study, he invites readers to encounter faith not as doctrine, but as a lived, fragile, and transformative experience.
