Andrew has dedicated 36 years of his life to a single organisation within the high-stakes world of Oil & Gas, steadily rising through the ranks from a Trainee Process Technician to his final role as Safety, Security, Health and Environment (SSHE) Manager. His journey is one of commitment, evolution, and deep-rooted purpose. Throughout his career, Andrew has seen the safety landscape shift through various systems and frameworks. From traditional safety protocols to comprehensive company-wide programs, he has lived through-and led-initiatives designed to prevent injury, protect lives, and cultivate harm-free workplaces. While these systems often differed in form, their essence remained the same: to keep people safe in high-risk environments. In his final years of service, Andrew played a pivotal role in deploying a groundbreaking safety initiative-the Personal Safety Management System. This system shifted the focus from reducing Total Recordable Injury Rates to the prevention of Life-Altering Injuries and Fatalities, particularly those impacting contractors in high-risk activities. What captivated Andrew was the system's emphasis on real-time engagement, behavioural safeguards, and a powerful human-centred shift in safety philosophy. Andrew spent nearly eight months immersing himself in the system, not only deploying it, but deeply internalising its principles. The system's call for supervisors to engage teams in meaningful, moment-to-moment safety conversations, and to build capacity from the ground up, resonated with him. Yet, he felt something more profound could be added.
