Saaya Unveiled: South Asian Mental Health Spotlighted shares 11 true stories of second-generation Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi immigrants who navigate mental health in the West- the U.S. U.K., and Canada. From topics like identity, culture, socialization, academia, love, loss, and trauma, each unique story unveils a part of the shadow (saaya) of mental health in South Asian diaspora. Each vignette has a part 1 and 2- the interviewee's origins and how they got to where they are today. Author Mrinal Gokhale hopes that South Asian readers navigating mental health in the West will feel less alone, and that non-South Asian readers learn about intersectionality in the South Asian diaspora. She also strives to promote education and acceptance of mental health in South Asian communities between generations.
