The problem of long poem as a distinctive format in Urdu poetry is ambiguous and complicated also because there is no definite rule according to which it can be decided at what limit or form a poem becomes long. However, the long poems of the present era are characterized by both experience and style of expression. And these poems take us beyond the old styles. The cultural, social, emotional, intellectual and political environment of our time has emerged in these poems as a much more organized, coherent and detailed background than in the old long poems.
