Now 71 years old and retired, I live in the peaceful Herefordshire countryside. My interest in pre-Revolutionary Russian silver was first aroused some 35 years ago when my wife had her own antiques business. During that period I bought one or two pieces of Russian silver because I was struck by the sheer quality of the work. I started to look for books but there was precious little available on the subject. I spent time in reference libraries and slowly I aquired a background knowledge. I decided to learn the Russian language so that I could read Russian books which opened up a much broader source of knowledge. It is the distillation of this information collected over 35 years that now forms the basis of this book.- Geoffrey Watts.
