Overview

This 6th edition represents a comprehensive review of the pathology and biology of tumours which affect the nervous system. Substantially enlarged and wholly revised to reflect the remarkable progress in the field, this book will serve as an encylopaedic guide to the growth of brain tumours for both practising and training neuropathologists. Most significantly, this edition now features eight new chapters on basic aspects of brain tumour genetics, epidemiology, growth factors, invasion and metastasis, neurocarcinogens, and cellular and molecular immunology. The diagnostic aspects of central nervous system tumours have been completely updated with three new chapters on cerebrospinal fluid cytopathology, flow cytometry and DNA ploidy analysis and immunohistochemistry, and complete revisions of the chapters on parasellar neoplasms and peripheral nervous system neoplasms. Now in two volumes, the text has also been expanded to incorporate recent advances in the understanding of factors involved in the genesis and progression of primary malignant tumors, in neuroimaging, and in tumour classifications (including the recently revised WHO classification system) with emphasis placed on those factors identified with prognostic significance.

Reviews

From reviews of the fifth edition:
The book is extensive, authoritative, and up-to-date. It is well written and reads well. The illustrations are crisp and not excessive. References are comprehensive and up-to-date. This book will be one of the essential references providing information and guidance not only to the pathologist but to all those who are dealing with tumors of the nervous system. I congratulate Dr. Rubinstein for this monumental achievement beyond competition. --Journal of American Medical Association
An outstanding monograph on a vast topic...First-class publishing...the book is a pleasure to handle. --The Lancet
The standard work on the pathology of tumors of the nervous system...Succeeds in its joint aims of being a source of reference for clinical diagnosis...and research in neurooncology...An essential purchase for both neuropathology and neurology departments. --Journal of Pathology
Russell and Rubinstein's Pathology of Tumors of the Nervous System deserves continued success. Neuropathology departments still cannot do without it.Brain
