Overview

At the age of 4, the teachers could not understand why it seemed I was not listening in class. At the time, they assumed that I was hard of hearing in which they encouraged my mom to get hearing tests, which all proved normal. It was discovered that I was suffering from a form of autism, which they could not name at the time, which left teachers in a state of confusion through most of my childhood education. At the start of my life, I had been let down by the education and the national health service as these services do not have the knowledge or skillset to treat someone with these conditions. This book highlights my difficulties with society in which I have experienced bullying, discrimination, loneliness, and degrading assumptions. All of these could of made me give up, especially when I was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 17. Regardless of this, I started running which allowed me to compose my thoughts and encouraged me to think differently by developing coping strategies. These coping strategies have helped me develop my communication skills and see the world in a new way. I then decide to go further with running and to this day I have competed in 5 marathons and hundreds of half-marathons. I'm also a successful England Athletics endurance coach and Triathlon coach in which I help athletes achieve their goals . This book tells my story, which I hope will inspire anyone who has been diagnosed with autism, diabetes and dyslexia. I would also like to expose the issues with society which seem to not have changed since I was younger. This is my inspirational story.
