Vienna, late 1930s. Curious, red-headed Inge Eisenger leads a privileged life with her glamorous, distant mother. When forced to flee from Nazi-occupied Austria to Switzerland, Inge sees her young life turned upside down. She hopes to finally connect with her mother during their escape, but her mother soon abandons her. Vulnerable and alone, Inge makes her way to Paris before reuniting with her grandmother in Central France. Running for Shelter is written by Inge's 15-year-old granddaughter, Suzette Sheft. Author Information

Suzette Sheft (2006) attends the Horace Mann School in New York City. She lives in Manhattan with her mother, twin brother, and two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys writing, reading, running, and spending time with family and friends. She began writing Running for Shelter at age thirteen and recently earned a Silver Key from Scholastic for an excerpt of the book. Suzette hopes that her novel inspires other children to record important stories from their own family legacies.
