Runaway Dancer Getaway Tales

Overview

These stories span the years from when McAndrews studied ballet with Felia Doubrovska and Antonina Tumkovsky at Balanchine's School of American Ballet in New York City, until she moved to Tucson, Arizona, and could no longer dance. Here are the tales of her transformation from city dancer to wilderness dancer. Jeri lived in Boulder, Colorado in the seventies, went to the Hopi snake dance and became friends with a Hopi Elder. She learned how to rock climb and was a member of Earth First! Jeri survived a plane crash, and a rafting accident. She choreographed and performed at Arches National Park, and the Coronet Creek Waterfall in Telluride. She now lives in Bisbee, Arizona. Runaway Dancer, Getaway Tales has a picture section of eighteen pages.

Author Information

Bisbee local Jeri McAndrews is the author of two books and several articles. Her work has appeared in various western newspapers and journals, such as the High Country News. Her first book, The Museum of Outside Art, was published in 1990 by Unicorn Press. McAndrews' second book, Runaway Dancer, Getaway Tales, is largely a self-publishing effort by McAndrews herself. She tells us, I just didn't feel like dying before I found an agent, and I wanted to get my stories out ASAP. McAndrews recently returned from a book tour and shared her experiences with book signings and selling books at a lecture she gave at the Copper Queen Library.
