""As a father of two school age boys, I understand the fears every parent can face. Although highly unlikely, we have to understand and recognize that the threat of an active shooter can exist in our world. We all hope we will never need this information in the same way that we hope we will never need to follow the instructions given to us by a Flight Attendant at the beginning of a commercial flight. The intent of this book is to give you and your child the information and tools that may help you in the unlikely event of an active shooter/intruder situation that isn't happening in an education environment. Most drills for this age are adult lead emergency drills, however, what if the adult is not available or does not know how to react? The tools taught will apply to multiple environments including social settings, open public areas, while shopping, or even at the cinema. Reading this book with your child will open the door to productive discussions in a safe environment. To create this book, I lean on my experiences being Ex British Forces, Ex British Police Service and currently being a Security Advisor and Certified Protection Professional, but most of all, being a Dad. This book takes best practices around the principles of Run, Hide, Fight, which are the 3 levels of response that people can progressively use to minimize their exposure to harm and prepares yours and your child's mindset around planning to succeed."" We live in a harsh world, but Ainsworth's book provides some brevity to the situation with his wonderful illustrations and practical advice that is applicable to both children and adults. - Cindy Pereira It is difficult to deliver this kind of message, therefore, thanks for helping us get the message out to our kids in a fun yet clear way! There's useful tips and tricks for mom and dad too that my family will be incorporating into our everyday lives. It's a topic you can't ignore in todays homes, so it is best we set our kids up with the information they need, and this book does it well. While it's unfortunate this message is needed today, I'm glad this book can provide a potentially life saving message to our most vulnerable demographic. The fact a more than qualified person wrote the material, only lends credibility and comfort to whomever purchases this book. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and purchase this book. Author Information

Dave Ainsworth joined the British Armed Forces, HM Grenadier Guards in 1994 and enjoyed everything the forces had to offer including completing multiple tours. Once he left military service, he joined the Greater Manchester Police Service where he later became a member of the Special Operations branch. While there he was awarded a ""High Commendation for Outstanding Police Service-for bravery, courage, and professionalism when faced with extreme violence."" In 2010, Dave made the difficult decision to leave the force to start a new life in Canada. In 2012 he earned the designation of ""Certified Protection Professional"" and became a Security Advisor. As of recent, Dave has become one of Edmonton's leading advisors for ""Active Intruder"" information and presentations. His message does not focus on the gloom of the event, but is about empowering listeners and ""planning to succeed."" On his career and the publication of Run, Hide, Don't Freeze!, Dave has said: During these presentations, one particular comment kept coming up, ""How do I take what you have shown me and teach it to my children?"" It has been a long road for such a short book, but I truly hope that this book does a number of things. 1) Takes away the anxiety for the child. 2) Teaches them what to do in such an emergent situation. 3) Opens a healthy dialog within a safe learning environment between the children and the adults.
