Overview

The long awaited book 'Rumour Of An Angel' written by a Zambian journalist and university lecturer Peter Kayula is based on a series of interviews https: //tsw.createspace.com/title/7391868/setup/book_interior# the author had between 2014 and 2015 with the former African Catholic archbishop Emmanuel Milingo and chronicles his troubled relationship with the church and how this development influenced the course of Christianity in Africa and some parts of Europe. ''Rumour Of An Angel'' is equally set to go around the world giving many Christians and ordinary people a new understanding of the events surrounding Emmanuel Milingo who was arguably at the centre of a bitter controversy because of his healing gift, exorcism and deep-seated development of an authentic African Christianity at a time when the Catholic Church faced a wave of secularism, a fast changing world and continued dissent among its members. In attempting to silence the former archbishop's views by removing him from Africa and taking him to Rome, Italy, the Vatican in fact internationalized the controversy and created partisan for his beliefs. Milingo says in one of the excerpts from the book, ''I stood for the development of an authentic African Christianity growing out of African values, including the spiritual one. This includes the use of local languages or traditional dancing in services.'' He was expelled in Rome, Italy in 2000 less than a year when a string of a dozen worst affairs with the Vatican including his marriage to a doctor, (at his level as a Catholic archbishop) Maria Sung, the alleged ordination of priests in the United States as bishops and his association with a relatively small South Korean based Moon Sect - came to light in one of the biggest scandals in the world of priesthood. Since then, he has been arguing for an end to the Catholic Church's celibacy rule and arguably agitating for the return of roughly 180,000 priests world over who have left the Catholic Church in recent decades. He has expressed gratitude to the world for its outpouring support and describing the institution that changed him and made him, as ''Mother Church'' and that he will forever remain royal to its cause. The book, Rumour of An Angel, quotes current leader of the world's 700 million membership Catholic Church, the social justice - minded Pope Francis, saying he believed that the Roman Catholic Church priests should be celibate but the rule was not an unchangeable dogma and the door was always open to change it.
