Overview

In 2023, RMFW celebrated forty years of nurturing writers. Very few of the current members had any recollection of our history, the reasons we formed, or how we got from the initial founding to the forty year mark. Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers in 2023 was vastly different from Rocky Mountain Romance Writers (as we originated) yet remarkably the same. We celebrated the amazing journey of RMFW with weekly anniversary articles in the newsletter as well as special blogs, podcasts, and social media posts-all leading to a commemorative book and a special observation at conference! We explored our origins, challenges, growth, and changes as well as spotlighting members who have made an impact and the impact of RMFW on our members.

Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers (RMFW) is a non-profit, volunteer-run corporation dedicated to supporting, encouraging, and educating writers seeking publication in commercial fiction. To that end, the organization strives to: Provide an environment of support and encouragement among members and the Rocky Mountain writing communityStimulate interest in and appreciation for the art of writing in the community at largeAct as a dissemination point for information to members and the public concerning commercial fiction writingBring together authors, editors, agents, writing-related professionals and readers for the benefit of allRMFW hosts the Colorado Gold Writers Conference each September and sponsors the annual Colorado Gold Writers Contest for unpublished authors. We also sponsor annual education events, host a writers' retreat, offer critique groups, publish an e-newsletter, host free monthly events on the craft and business of writing that are open to the public, and periodically publish an anthology of short fiction showcasing the talents of the Rocky Mountain writing community. We have an active social media community that reaches thousands of authors, writers, and readers annually.
