He graduated with honors in Mining Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin. He taught machine design at the Polytechnic University of Turin from 1977 to 1982 and at University of Naples from 1983 to 1986. His principal research areas include mechanical structures, analysis of rotors, plates and shells, advanced design in automotive and railway industry and finite element method of analysis. He is the author of about 180 scientific papers and he is a member of a number of professional societies, including ASME and SAE. Francesco Vivio graduated in Mechanical Engineering with honors and he earned a PhD in Machine System Design from the University of Rome ""Tor Vergata. Since 2002 he has taught mechanical design in the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering and in Graduate Research School in Mechanical Systems Design at University of Rome ""Tor Vergata"". He is currently full researcher and aggregate professor, teaching mechanical design in mechanical engineering. His principal research areas include mechanical structures, analysis of rotors, plates and shells, solid mechanics, advanced design in automotive and railway industry and finite element method of analysis. He is the author of about 80 scientific papers and he is a member of a number of professional societies including Society of Automotive Engineers, which presented an award to him in 1999.
