After raising small exotic birds for decades, Gail A. Lewis began a website in 2009 to share her experience and affection for birds with others. The Splendid Bourke Bird Blog on BlogSpot became an instant success. Not long after, she began adding You Tube videos of her birds, posting as Rosie Bird. It, too, quickly gained a huge following, with over a thousand subscribers. Those two venues resulted in countless bird-related questions emailed to rosie.birds@gmail.com, and to numerous appeals for her to share her knowledge and expertise in an informational book. In response to these many requests, she wrote her internationally acclaimed Rosie Bird's Guide to Small Exotic Birds.
