Rory and Robot Go Camping

Overview

Rory and Robot are eager to spend a night camping in the woods. But after sharing a fireside scary story, the sounds of the forest seem to come alive, spooking the friends. Will they be too frightened to make it through the night? Stairway Decodables is a supplemental phonics resource that's perfect for supporting small group instruction, independent reading, or reading practice at home. This title provides practice in decoding words with R-controlled vowels.

Reviews

"These biographies are written in a kid-friendly, chatty style. All provide brief general information about the featured subject. The type is large, the sentences are easy to read, and the backgrounds uncluttered, making them good choices for beginning readers. They're also suitable for classroom read-alouds. The boldly colored illustrations were digitally rendered and encompass full spreads. The captions present interesting extra tidbits about the person. An additional bonus is a link to the Fact Hound Web site, which contains links to sites for further information. These biographies are similar in reading level to the ""First Biographies"" series (Capstone/Pebble) but those books are illustrated with photos and reproductions. Nettleton's titles are twice as large and more visually appealing.-- ""School Library Journal"""

The final set in Capstone's ""Stairway Decodables"" series, focuses on more advanced spelling patterns providing a robust foundation for developing readers. This level features a diverse range of titles, showcasing varied content and illustration styles that engage young readers while maintaining the cohesive elements that define the series. Each title includes valuable front matter that aids comprehension, offering insights into the text as well as extended phonics practice. In addition to phonics reinforcement, this set incorporates comprehension exercises that focus on identifying cause and effect, skillfully tied to the content of each story. The stories feature diverse characters and story lines, some of which include familiar faces from earlier levels, creating continuity that can enhance readers' connections to the material. VERDICT This set not only solidifies essential reading skills but also encourages a deeper understanding of text through its thoughtful design and varied content.-- ""School Library Journal""
