OverviewSince the second half of the 20th century, a series of changes has taken place in interpersonal, emotional, and family relationships. Women have taken on new social roles by becoming fully engaged in the labor market, responding to the growing demands for productivity and consumption advocated by the capitalist system. Men, in turn, have been required to expand their role within the family beyond that of provider, taking on the direct responsibility of raising children alongside women. Men and women are facing profound changes in the parameters of conduct that have guided their relationships until now. There are no longer pre-established standards that define the social roles of each gender. Thus, the traditional family structure is undergoing visible transformations, and new relationship models have become possible, based on divorce and greater acceptance of same-sex marriages. This work is the result of exploratory research with men of different ages, marital statuses, and economic levels, whose main objective was to understand their expectations of their partners in contemporary romantic relationships.
