"Nan Webster's summer hasn't started out very well and, given her disenchantment with life in general, she isn't holding out much hope for more. There just doesn't seem to be anything good about being 12, especially since she's now old enough to take care of her little sister, Kara. If that isn't enough, her best friend, Jack, is hanging out with Millie Medlin, the one girl in the whole world that Nan can't stand. Things get a little more interesting, however, when Nan takes Kara to visit Jack's pot-bellied pig, Chubbs. It turns out that there's a new boy in town. His name is Ace Emerson, and he just happens to be Jack's new stepbrother. Given the alternative of spending more time alone with Kara in their stuffy apartment, Nan decides she has nothing to lose! As the summer progresses, Nan and her friends (and Chubbs, of course) find themselves on an urgent quest to save Millie's home. Because Millie always seems to get what she wants, Nan assumed she was rich. But looks can be deceiving when it comes to money and wealth. As the adventure unfolds, 5-year-old Kara uncovers the ""stepping stones to wealth"", which take them on an altogether different journey. As they move through their summer, Nan and the others deepen their bonds in family and friendship and learn that they are indeed rich in the deepest sense of the word. Rocks to Riches is a treasure hunts with a twist and appropriate for ages 9-14. Author Information

Born and raised on a farm in Bend, Oregon, Elisabeth learned how to do just about everything, except what to do with money. Little did she know that once she taught herself, she would have a whole new career teaching others about money and investing. Elisabeth is now the Pres./CEO of Creative Wealth International and creator of the innovative financial education programs The Money Game, Camp Millionaire, and Moving Out! for Teens. She is also the 2010 Financial Educator of the Year Award from the National Financial Educators Council. She trains people all over the globe to empower kids and teens to be responsible for themselves and the world. Rocks to Riches is her first Kids' Financial Adventure, a genre she hopes will catch on as financial education becomes as commonplace as reading, writing, and arithmetic! Elisabeth's other financial education books for kids and parents include The Ultimate Allowance, The Money Jars: Your Magical Money Management System, Money...The Instruction Manual and The Financial Wisdom Coloring Books for Kids and Paretns. Jan has spent most of her professional life collecting experiences. Starting out in politics, then moving into film and television, education, and life coaching, she is now advocating for financial education. The common thread throughout has been writing, and Jan is thrilled to step into her dream of becoming a published author. One of the things Jan loves most about writing is letting the characters tell their own story. In fact, it was actually Nan Webster who coaxed Jan into co-writing Rocks to Riches. Originally brought in as a copyeditor, Jan ended up spending more of her time jotting down Nan's thoughts and ideas than correcting punctuation. Pretty soon, R2R became a collaborative project! Jan lives in Santa Barbara, California with her husband, son, and two stepdaughters.
