OverviewThis book systematically introduces the fundamental theories, testing methods, and practical applications of rock mechanics and rock engineering. Rock mechanics is a core course for students majoring in mining, civil engineering, water conservancy, petroleum, transportation, geology, and related fields. This book emphasizes the integration of theory, experimentation, and practice, and it is compiled based on the international standards and incorporates the latest advances in theories, technologies, and equipment. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the development and progress in rock mechanics; Chapters 2-7 cover the basic knowledge of rock mechanics, including geological environment of rock engineering, physical and mechanical properties of rocks, mechanical properties of discontinuities and rock mass, rock mass classification, rock failure criterion, and rock constitutive relationship; Chapters 8-11 focus on the practical application of rock mechanics in rock engineering, addressing topics including underground rock engineering, deep rock engineering, rock foundation engineering, and rock slope engineering; Chapter 12 introduces the sub-disciplines of rock mechanics and progresses. This book serves as a valuable textbook for both undergraduate and postgraduate students specializing in rock engineering-related disciplines. It also acts as a comprehensive reference for scholars, researchers, and practitioners interested in the field.
