Cassie Barr, a mechanic at an upscale car repair shop, harbors a secret sixth sense that draws her, intrinsically, to advanced robotics. When a local corporation acquires the most advanced android in the world, Cassie is determined to be hired and learn everything she can about the robot. Her boyfriend Alex and her best friend Malory are dead set against it. Cassie perseveres, despite their objections, and seizes her chance to prove herself when the robot crashes. No one can figure out how to revive him, and she's called in as a last-ditch effort. Thanks to her sixth sense, she repairs the robot, Sam, and is hired immediately. Cassie's dream job soon turns into a nightmare. Her long days and frequent travels, which require her to remain at Sam's side, drive a wedge between her and Alex. Her boss, Loren Andersen, is a ruthless, ambitious woman with big plans for Sam. Cassie learns more than one of Loren's dark secrets that could threaten her schemes. To ensure her silence, Loren threatens both Alex and Cassie's mother, who is a helpless dementia patient. Cassie has no choice but to remain silent and trapped at the corporation. Sam's intellectual powers, meanwhile, continue to grow. He is certain, as well, that he is learning human emotions. He falls in love with Cassie... with deadly consequences. Cassie must untangle herself from Sam and escape from Loren's grasp without harm coming to Alex or her mother. Can she do it?

Cathy Parker is the author of the speculative fiction trilogy Power Rising, which begins with the story of a zoo volunteer who sets out to free a beluga from captivity, send an alien child home, and defeat extraterrestrials. Cathy recently returned home from a stint in Costa Rica, where she lived in a small town located on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean. She now lives in Tacoma, Washington with her cat, who she describes as a little hellion.
