Reviews

This book, which could be subtitled 'Why should we read Merton [in] the 1990s?' brings out many general points in the Robert K. Merton legacy. . . . The volume . . . provides a foundation for more general social theory for contemporary readers. . . . Seeking to formulate a clear and self-conscious location for the entire sociology enterprise, building on the legacy of these 1960s-1990s debates, is the main recurrent theme throughout the book's 21 chapters. --Terry Nichols Clark, Contemporary Sociology
