Australia is the ideal country for adventurous road trips. A gigantic network of roads, many unpaved or back roads, runs through the almost endless expanse. Fascinating national parks are connected with country towns; long stretches of coastline, vast forests and large tracts of the outback are accessible. All you need is a sturdy (SUV or 4WD) vehicle, camping gear, navigation skills and a good dose of common sense. And time, of course. German-born photojournalist Don Fuchs worked for Germanys biggest travel magazine and then spent five years as one of the editors of a mountaineering magazine. Since 1995 he has made Australia his main subject and has travelled the continent extensively. His stories and photographs appear regularly in European, Australian, New Zealand and American magazines such as R.M Williams Outback and Australian Geographic. He is the author and/or photographer of more than ten books, amongst them a book on Australian islands, The Ghan, Australian National Parks and a trekking guide. Passionate about the outdoors, he never shies away from physically demanding assignments. Don lives in Sydney.
