OverviewMost canoes are built either using cedar strips, meticulously laid over hundreds of hours, or the more straightforward stitch and tape method using plywood panels. One method rewards the builder with a canoe akin to a piece of fine furniture. The other a hard angled craft that is functional but lacks the grace of a traditional canoe. Mark Schultz wanted a hybrid of the two methods, a canoe that looked more like a cedar stripper, but with the simplicity of a plywood craft. Ripple II is a 14' canoe with a 36"" beam and lots of character. Using little more than 2 sheets of 4mm marine plywood you can build a canoe to be proud of in about 40 to 60 hours. The step-by-step instructions, along with over 130 photos demystifies the building process, while offering valuable tips on how to effectively apply epoxy resin and fiberglass.
