Richter the Mighty

Overview

Cody and her little brother Billy are on the run, hunted by their powerful father-President Wilhelm ""Hick"" Richter. A coke-sniffing, hamburger gorging septuagenarian with erectile dysfunction and a young, contemptuous, cat-collecting wife, Richter faces financial ruin and prison. His kids are about to finger him for murdering his first wife, while drug-addled, dim-witted thieves have beheaded his lawyer and stolen his $100 billion fortune. What to do? Sell national secrets to the Russians in exchange for quick cash. Deploy thugs supplied by the Russian ambassador to kill the kids. Send a hipster hitman from Brooklyn to retrieve the stolen cash and whack the thieves. The result is droll chase and combat through the Okefenokee, Florida, and France, leading to an explosive night at Ponte Vedra on the Fourth of July.

Reviews

""If it all sounds insanely zany, it is, yet Manning's imagination, ambitious plotting, and comic timing are impeccable, and the outright corruption is hilarious. The hijinks steamroll common sense toward the conclusion, when the parade of bumbling idiots makes one final plan to dispose of poor abused Cody. This is a brilliantly conceived parody. A sprawling, cleverly imagined spoof of political culture and the miscreants it spawns."" Kirkus Reviews ""As he spins the tale of President Richter, with settings ranging from Florida to Washington, D.C., to Paris, Manning takes an absurdist look at modern politics and all the fantastically ridiculous characters who inhabit such a world."" Seven Days, Vermont's Independent Voice
