OverviewWritten in the early 1590s, Shakespeare's version of the story of Richard III, more properly known as The Tragedy of Richard the Third, depicts events that happened more than a century before. The story is based on the unfinished History of Richard III by Sir Thomas More, writing as the Tudor dynasty was seeking to consolidate its position. Shakespeare portrays his usurping, hunchbacked Richard as truly villainous, with few redeeming features. Yet as he strives to consolidate power, he is a compelling and charismatic character, delivering some of Shakespeare's most memorable lines. As well as the play itself, this edition contains: • An extended introduction that looks at the play's history, its structure, and characters • A glossary of words and terms • Notes on the text • A timeline of William Shakespeare's life and work Full Product DetailsAuthor: William Shakespeare , Chris McNab , Chris McNabPublisher: Arcturus Publishing Ltd Imprint: Arcturus Dimensions: Width: 12.90cm , Height: 1.50cm , Length: 19.80cm Weight: 0.183kg ISBN: 9781398854147ISBN 10: 139885414 Pages: 240 Publication Date: 01 August 2025 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: In Print This item will be ordered in for you from one of our suppliers. Records show that he married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18 and had three children with her. At some point he went to London and joined the theatrical profession, as an actor, playwright, poet and, latterly, theatre manager and impresario. He died in April 1616, aged 52. The body of work left by Shakespeare included 37 plays, four poems and a collection of sonnets. Chris McNab is an author and editor who has written more than 100 titles, on topics ranging from history to popular culture to biography. He holds a Ph.D in English Literature and Theology and some of his recent titles include A History of War, Jeff Bezos and J. Robert Oppenheimer.
