OverviewUntil very recently individuals suffering from inflammatory rheumatic diseases were traditionally excluded from sport due to fear of exacerbating the disease. However, improved diagnostics as well as progress in therapy and prevention have made involvement in non-competitive sporting activities possible for these patients. This study focuses on physical activity in relation to inflammatory diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Chapters cover pathophysiological interactions between the immune system, rheumatic inflammation and physical activity, including also the mechanisms of pain, the influence of the climate and psychosomatic aspects. Recommendations are given as to the types of physical exercise suitable for different kinds of rheumatic diseases, taking into account the particular problems of the juvenile patient. In addition, careful consideration is given to therapeutic approaches from a practical point of view adapted to the requests of the physically active patient. Full Product DetailsAuthor: W.-W.
