Revolution

Overview

Revolution, far from being an incendiary speech, is a fun and entertaining book exploring the dynamics of social power amid dilemmas that range from astrophysics to the ethics behind financial mischiefs. Through this dark path, we can discover a tangle of factors that move the domain of political and economic power in the strangest ways, distorting our perception of reality, commodifying the information we receive and entering the gloom of our emotions. The concept of revolution is deepened as a product of complex situations in which the scientific approach and critical thinking are necessary tools to achieve any successful revolution.

Reviews

Juan Manuel Munoz is a keen observer of political and social dynamics and seeks to understand the social revolutions - shifts in power from one group to another - within societies. Munoz questions: why do revolutions happen, and what propels them forward? Drawing on observations of human nature, our attraction to power, the reaction of a group to being deprived resources, the strength of energized crowds, how skilled politicians manipulate supporters, our desire for freedom and the inevitability of change, Munoz weaves an understanding that explains the social questioning, unrest and change shaping our world, both historically and in our lives today.

Author Information

Juan Manuel Muñoz, born in Panama City, is a physician, political scientist, futurist, business administrator, musician, and social activist in the areas of human rights, pacifism, and a movement toward a sustainable environment. He began his participation as social activist during his medical studies at the University of Panama, which led him to sit on the executive board of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA). The current political uncertainty, along with fast-paced political changes, led Muñoz to publish multiple opinion articles in local newspapers, and finally to publish his first book, From Primates to Politicians.
