Population growth hastens the depletion of natural resources, degrades the environment, and increases poverty and conflict. This book describes a simple and practical credit-based system that can gradually reduce the size of any population to an optimal level without imposing an upper limit on the number of children a couple can produce, or an upper limit on the number of immigrants that may legally enter the country; nor does it require anyone to violate the moral precepts of any of the world's major faiths regarding birth control and abortion. The plan also resolves, fairly and compassionately, the problem of resident illegal aliens in a way that would win broad public support. Nothing like this credit-based system has ever been proposed before. The author discusses the social and economic changes that would likely accompany population reduction; and proposes innovative solutions to our most serious social, political, and economic problems, including poverty.
