Overview"Revelation: Dispensationally Considered. Why this book? On November 18th, 1978 former doomsday prophet Jim Jones led 913 of his followers in Jonestown, Guyana to drink juice laced with poison in a mass suicide. In 1988 the book 88 reasons why Christ will return September 11th, 12th or 13th, 1988 turned out to be wrong, its author recalculated the date to 1989, that failed also. On April 10th, 1993 76 men, women and children of the group known as the Branch Davidians lost their lives when they burned to death at Mt. Carmel in Waco, TX. David Koresh, their leader, who claimed to be the Lamb of God which could interpret the seven seals of the book of the Revelation. On May 21st, 2011 Harold Camping again predicted the end of the world and was wrong again. These are just a few examples of date setters in recent history who all predicted dates for the return of Christ, and they all got it wrong. All of these date setters were smart men, but why were they and hundreds of other date setters wrong? They all had the same problem to start with, none of them knew how to rightly divide the word of truth as the Apostle Paul instructs us to do.2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. People have been taught to spiritualize scriptures written to Israel to make them apply to them today, and this has caused many of the false doctrines that have divided the body of Christ for 2,000 years. When you spiritualize scriptures, you have to tell spiritual lies. You are not the ones mentioned as ""his servants"" in its opening verses. You are not ""Spiritual Jews."" You cannot figure out when the rapture will occur, because it can occur at any moment. There are no signs that have to happen before the rapture. The timing of the events in the book of the Revelation is called the time of Jacob's Trouble in Jeremiah 30:7. Jacob is Israel. Those times are also known as the 70th week of Daniel. See Daniel 9:24-27. These times are not for the Church today. For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation. 1st Thessalonians 5:9. The purpose for writing this book is to educate those who have trusted in Christ's death, burial and resurrection for their salvation to rightly divide the word of truth so that they will not fall prey to the next cult leader that comes along claiming a date for the end of the world.
