She practised as a solicitor in Dublin before serving as a judge of the District Court for nine years. In 1992 she was awarded an M.Litt degree for legal research by Trinity College and she is the author of Talking to Your Solicitor (1992), The Winding-up of the Dáil Courts, 1922–1925 (2004), and 'Tis All Lies, Your Worship….:Tales from the District Court (2011).
