Even some believers I know are anxious and worried. That's why we need this thirty-day devotional by my friend, Ernest Easley, which dives deep into the reaches of God's sovereignty and leaves us with a great faith in Him and a trust that His will and plan give us the hope, rest, and assurance we need in unsettling times."" --Kevin Ezell, President, North American Mission Board, SBC ""God's sovereignty and mankind's free will are not in conflict. Ernest Easley has shown in these pages that those two great realities belong together. God is in control and each believer is made in the image of God and possesses the faith that allows one to live joyfully in His grace."" --Jimmy Draper, President Emeritus, Lifeway ""Dr. Easley has married his personal journey of faith and trust in the sovereignty of God with depth of biblical truth to produce one of the best devotionals I've read in years. It is an honor to highly recommend this fresh daily devotional."" --Randy C. Davis, President and Executive Director, Tennessee Baptist Mission Board ""I've always believed that the bedrock of biblical theology is the sovereignty of God. The first four words of the Bible 'In the beginning God...' says it all. Ernest Easley has given believers a great reason to rejoice in this sovereignty, and I commend this book warmly."" --James Merritt, Senior Pastor of Cross Pointe Church, Host of the Broadcast Ministry Touching Lives, Former President of the Southern Baptist Convention ""Resting in God's Sovereignty does just what Ernest Easley set out to do--help us rest in the truth of God's goodness. Ernest, someone who is extremely trustworthy, leads us to trust God, the One who is ultimately trustworthy. These devotions are forged from a life that has lived these truths and are taught by a father, pastor, teacher, shepherd, and friend who brings all that to bear to lead us to Christ where we put our trust forever. Whatever you may be facing in your own life, this devotional will help you rest in the goodness and grace of God."" --Dub Oliver, President, Union University ""Dr. Easley has brought deep theology back to the devotional. His careful exegesis of Scripture relating to the sovereignty of God is a refreshing change from the fluff offered by many devotionals. In a world filled with violence, chaos, wars, and rumors of war, it's good to be reminded that God is sovereign--God is in control. Thank you, Dr. Easley, for your daily reminder of this timeless truth."" --J. Marcus Merritt, Doctor of Ministry Program Coordinator; Director of Ministry Relations; Assistant Professor of Pastoral Ministry, Luther Rice College and Seminary ""Ernest Easley's ever-emerging faith comes to life on the pages of this devotional. I have known him for years and from a near distance observed his journey of learning to 'be content in whatever circumstance.' The truths taught through this devotional reveal the pathway on how to rest in the sovereignty of God. On the anvil of suffering, God has shaped his faith to simply trust the one who created us. As he has taught his sons, allow him to teach you how to rely upon the promises, power, and presence of Jesus who lives within you. Be blessed."" --Frank Cox, Senior Pastor, North Metro Baptist Church, Lawrenceville, Georgia ""As one who has been mentored by Dr. Ernest Easley in following God's path for my life through good and tough seasons, I can't imagine a better person to spend thirty days doing this devotion the Lord has given him. Every one of us, at some point in our lives, will face adversity, question our faith, or navigate challenging seasons. The Resting in God's Sovereignty thirty-day challenge equips you to prepare for those moments or to find peace if you're currently walking through one. By embracing this challenge, you embark on a transformative path toward unwavering trust in God. Each day, as you engage with this devotional, you'll discover renewed joy and encouragement. Enjoy and be encouraged daily as you read through Resting in God's Sovereignty."" --Brian Mills, Senior Pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Yukon, OK ""Ernest Easley is to be immediately held in high esteem for skillfully writing this book with biblical balance and practical application about the foreboding theme of God's sovereignty. Often the subject is misunderstood. He has combined deep theological convictions with a steady insight as to how this theme, frightening to many, becomes authentically valuable for our day. He has the heart of a pastor, the mind of a clear thinker, and the passion of an evangelist. In his latest book, he has addressed this subject with a definite word and shows it to be vitally important and a guiding truth. I read the pages, I was greatly enriched, warmly moved, and now am very deeply indebted."" --Michael Gott, President, Michael Gott International Ministry ""Ernest Easley has written a magnificent book concerning God's sovereignty. Dr. Easley shows that God's sovereignty is greater than you probably realize! Read this wonderful book and you will be blessed!"" --Frank Harber, President and Chief Legal Counsel, Defending the Faith Alliance ""One of the most vulnerable experiences in the Christian life is when the waves of suffering crash in on all sides. This devotional is a helpful reminder that in Christ there is a steady anchor for our soul and come what may, He will never let us go."" --Matt Boswell, Hymnwriter; Pastor, The Trails Church; Assistant Professor, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary ""I was on staff as the student pastor when Dr. Easley went through his cancer treatments and early days of recovery. He has stayed a mentor and friend, and has challenged me to trust in God over the years. 'I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, in view of your participation in the gospel from the first day until now' (Philippians 1:3-4). I know this devotional book will challenge and encourage you as you continue to walk with God daily."" --Michael Mynatt, Senior Pastor, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Enterprise, Alabama ""I have known Dr. Ernest Easley for almost five decades. I have witnessed him live out his faith under the sovereignty of God, through trials and triumphs alike. He writes not from theory but from real-life experience. The truths covered in this book about the sovereignty of God will encourage and inspire all who read it."" --Charles Boswell, Church Health and Leadership N4, Southern Baptists of Texas Convention ""Trusting God is easy when times are good; when we're healthy and happy, prosperous and protected. But how do we rest in God's sovereignty when we don't understand his plan? This thirty-day journey will deepen your faith, drive you to your knees, and develop confidence in the Lord as you walk with Him."" --Jordan Easley, Pastor, First Baptist, Cleveland, Tennessee; Author of Life Change: Finding a New Way to Hope, Think, and Live and Resuscitating Evangelism" Author InformationErnest L. Easley was born and raised in Texas. He attended Baylor University (Track and Field Letterman) and graduated from Dallas Baptist University (BS). He then graduated from Southwestern Theological Seminary (MDiv) and Luther Rice Seminary (DMIN). Easley pastored for more than thirty-two years and then served as the first Professor of Evangelism in school history at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He has served as the Teaching Pastor over Equipping at First Baptist Church in Cleveland, Tennessee, since 2019. His preaching ministry has continued to expand as a contributor to Sermonsearch.com. Easley has been a leader among Southern Baptists serving as a Trustee for the International Mission Board and the Executive Committee (Chairman in 2013-2014). His battle with throat cancer in 1998 began a series of challenges and changes in his life, including the destruction of his sylvia glands, an implant behind his vocal cords after they ceased functioning allowing him to speak, and the inability to swallow food due to long term radiation, which is now overcome by a feeding tube. His vocal challenges now prohibit him from preaching and teaching, so he has exchanged the pulpit for a pen to declare the truths of the Word of God. He details his cancer journey in the book Through the Valleys. He has also coauthored the book Resuscitating Evangelism, with his son Jordan. His other son Jonah is a church planter in Washington state and his daughter Jessica serves on a church staff in Georgia. In addition, he and his wife Julie have seven grandchildren.
