Reviews

This book is a gem. School counselors inevitably encounter crises and challenging cases, and although there are resources on crisis counseling in general, more focused and specific information is often needed to respond in a professional and ethical manner. This collection of true-to-life incidents presents each case along with background information, theoretical perspectives, practical considerations, and a discussion of relevant ethical standards. Multicultural factors are addressed as well. The wide range of types of issues is current and comprehensive. Students and professional school counselors have an opportunity to examine these cases and the issues each one exemplifies to increase their own confidence and efficacy for responding in their own setting. I look forward to having my students read this book as part of their training. - Dr. Sheri Bauman, Professor, College of Education, University of Arizona, Tucson, USA. This book needs to be in the hands of all school counselors who in today's world deal with a multitude of crisis situations. It is written by well-trained and experienced counselors for responding to tragedies, and it provides a wealth of information and is a tour de force about how to help students after a myriad of crises. School counselors are first responders in helping traumatized students, and this book provides a wealth of practical knowledge and guidance. It is an essential, invaluable resource for all school counselors regarding crisis events. This must have book provides a comprehensive examination of the many crises that school counselors face and provides them with hands-on strategies that have been successfully implemented in schools. - Dr. Scott Poland, Professor at Nova Southeastern University and the Director of the Suicide and Violence Prevention Office.
