He is the author of twenty books, including The Law of Return (The History of the Exodus). He is contributing editor to the newsmagazine L'Evenement du Jeudi, and has been active in French television in the area of documentaries and serialization of current affairs. Gerard Chaliand was a professor at Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA), Paris, France and director of the European Center for the Study of Conflicts, Paris, France. Currently he is visiting scholar at the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies in Afghanistan. He is a world-renowned specialist of conflicts, strategic problems, guerrillas, and terrorism. He has spent years as a participant-observer of guerrilla movements and other armed conflicts.
