In this small volume the reader will find no fantastical modes of applyingAlgebra to Geometry. The old Cartesian or co-ordinate system is the basisof the whole method-and notwithstanding this, the author is satisfied thatthe reader will find much originality in his performance, and flatters himselfthat he has done something to amuse, if not to instruct, Mathematicians.Though the work is not intended as an elementary one, but rather assupplementary to existing treatises on conic sections, any intelligent studentwho has digested Euclid, and the usual mode of applying Algebra to Geom-etry, will meet but little difficulty in the following pages.
