Many researchers are suspicious of the pronouncements of counselling and psychotherapy practitioners because these are not backed up by resarcg, and likewise practitioners tend to ignore research findings because they consider that they have little relevance to their clinical practice. Aiming to bridge the gap between research and practive in couselling and psychotherapy, this book provides detailed clinical examples of the practical relevance of research. It includes contributions from therapy researchers, each of whom describes his or her research programme and spells put the practical applications for therapy of that programme's practice, and assess their immediate relevance for practitioners. This book calls for th eclose integration of research, skills training and supervised clinical practice on training courses. It should be a useful resource for both trainee and experienced practitioners.

Author Information

Windy Dryden is one of the leading practitioners and trainers in the UK in the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) tradition of psychotherapy. He is best known for his work in Rational-Emotive Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (RECBT), a leading CBT approach.  He has been working in the field of counselling and psychotherapy since 1975 and was one of the first people in Britain to be trained in CBT. He has published over 200 books and has trained therapists all over the world, in as diverse places as the UK, the USA, South Africa, Turkey and Israel. He is Emeritus Professor of Psychotherapeutic Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London.
