OverviewCertain moments in the history of our society have been marked by episodes of extreme cruelty. Empires, kingdoms, and governments that ignored any consideration for the right to life used various forms of official despotism, ironically always in the name of the people, to engage in the most diverse types of torture and murder against any individual who threatened the sovereignty of their powers. The result of a psychology thesis completed in 2006, the main objective of this book is to understand the psychological aspects inherent in the difficult survival of an individual in an environment characterized by the routine use of torture during the Brazilian military dictatorship. Its dissemination aims to raise awareness among the population, warning against situations in which authoritarianism threatens the subjectivity of each individual. Its intention, therefore, throughout the research period, was not simply the raw observation of a historical perspective and its collective or individual consequences, but rather the possibility of seeing in the past the image of a future that should never be repeated.
