Established in February 1950, the CWRC has 15,000 employees, among whom there are more than 7,600 technical professionals, including academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering and national engineering survey and design masters. The CWRC is in charge of flood control and disaster mitigation, comprehensive utilization of water resources, water ecological environment protection and restoration, and integrated river basin management. lt compiled and revised the Master Plan of the Yangtze River Basin, and has drawn the attention of the world by designing water conservancy projects such as the Three Gorges Project, the Middle Route of the South to North Water Transfer Project, flood diversion works on the Jingjiang River section, and the Gezhouba and Danjiangkou projects.
