Excerpt from Report of Proceedings, Twelfth Canadian Conference of Charities and Correction: Held in Hamilton, Ont., Sept. 22nd-25th, 1911 The Objects of the Conference are to bring into closer relation ship the many workers who are engaged in caring for neglected and unfortunate classes in the community. It includes within the range of its discussion every phase of philanthropic work, the safe-guarding of children, the custodial care of the feeble-minded, the sick and insane, the reformation of criminals and drunkards, discipline in prisons and other public institutions, the relief of distress and poverty in such a way as to avoid pauperism - in fact everything that affects the welfare of those who are dependent upon their fellows for assistance or support. I desire to touch briefly on and of subjects, only offering a few sug gestions heping we may reach the hearts and lives of ourselves, and those we are here to confer over. The best thinking of men has failed to reform the world very fast. Why? Because the thinking lacks so much of action and assistance toward-s living the life of goodwill tomen.
