Storms come in many shapes and sizes, and the damage left behind can be irreparable. But not always. Claire Teagan has weathered all sorts of storms in her lifetime. But it's the storm that nearly claims her son Ben's life that forces her to summon strengths she didn't know she possessed and repair what past storms have left ravaged. When Claire's marriage finally falls apart, her teenaged son, Ben, chooses to live with his father. His father then moves his business from Pittsburgh to Charleston, widening the divide between mother and son. In a late-night phone call from her ex-husband, Richard tells her Ben has been critically injured in an accident. Claire gets on the first plane out to Charleston. Her long-time friend and now lover, Mac MacNeil stands by her through this particular storm, as he has in the past. As she sits by her son's bedside and tries to mend their relationship, Claire sees both herself and Ben as being much like the shingles that were ripped from the roof of her beloved beach house during the storm that caused Ben's accident. They are remnants of another storm, torn and uprooted by forces they could not control. Both she and Ben have to find the strength to weather the storm that has ripped them apart.
