Overview

""But I didn't get to say good-bye"" were Truman's first words when his Momma told him his ""Pop Pop"" had died. In this tender story, Truman's mom teaches him how to keep his grandfather's memories alive in his mind and heart and in the things that he would do later in life. You will follow a young boy as his grandfather teaches him important life lessons and values. This story helps those who have dealt with a personal loss find comfort through memories. ""When someone you love becomes a memory--that memory can become a treasure."" Children will enjoy the colorful illustrations as well as have fun locating the cardinal on most of the pages.

Author Information

I wrote ""Remembering Pop Pop"" shortly after losing my husband, Larry Tithof, following his fifth open-heart surgery. A doting dad and loving grandfather, Larry lived each day to the fullest, always with a positive attitude. All who knew him have great memories of their time with Larry. My hope is that this story will help those who have lost a family member to recognize the value of the precious memories of their loved one. Now that I am retired from my 30-year teaching career in Michigan, I finally have time to pursue my hobby of writing children's stories, most of which are inspired by my own family. I spend winters in the southwest and summers in Michigan--the best of both worlds because I have grandchildren in both locations! My first book, ""My Michigan Summer"", shows the differences between the west coast and Michigan through the perspective of my grands. Creating the book with photos of Michigan and unique stick characters was such a fun project. My story has been shared with elementary students and libraries in Michigan as well as other states, and I have enjoyed the entire process. Carilyn Teichman is from Owosso, Michigan. In 1980 she graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a degree in Fashion Illustration. She has over 30 years of experience as a professional illustrator. This includes working as an illustrator in an advertising department and as an artist at a collectibles company. She worked at a sportswear company where her designs were embroidered on clothing and as an artist for a silkscreen printer. Carilyn has illustrated paper doll sets for Pratt & Austin and paper dolls for magazines such as Contemporary Doll Collector Magazine and Miniature Collector.
