Overview

""You are a being from God. You are good and beautiful. You are forever. Remember who you are."" Have you ever had the sense that you are more than your physical body, that you are actually a spiritual being from God who came into this world to fulfill a noble purpose? Have you ever wanted to recognize your true spiritual nature, deep inside your mind and heart, that could help you better handle the stormy ups and downs of your daily life? Have you ever wanted to know what spiritual truths can help you see other people as your sisters and brothers so you can build a more peaceful and creative world together? In Remember Who You Are, Rahim Snow helps you uncover the answers to these and many other questions through the practical spirituality and interfaith wisdom of the Quran. Remember Who You Are is a practical handbook of spiritual teachings based on 28 core verses from the Quran. Each verse is translated into simple readable English and accompanied by a teaching / reflection / commentary / examples that show you how to apply that verse in your daily life. These core verses represent the essential ideas of a universal spirituality. They are broad-minded and large-hearted. Muslims, Christians, Jews, and all seekers of knowledge can use them to go deeper into their own practice. Remember Who You Are is a new addition to the great library of spiritual books and psychological teachings that includes Marianne Williamson, Pema Chödrön, Thomas Moore, Eckhart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz, and Brené Brown. From the back cover: In a time when Islam is understood less and less, there is a genuine desire among many of us to learn about the faith of almost two billion Muslims around the world. There is no better place to start than the Quran itself. Yet the Quran is not a book we can easily read without a good deal of background information. What if we had a friend who could help us take the first step by giving us an introduction to the core spiritual teachings of the Quran? In Remember Who You Are, Rahim Snow guides us through 28 core verses to help us discover our true identity (who we are), purpose (why we are here), and nourishment (what feeds us). Each verse is translated into simple readable English and accompanied by a practical and friendly teaching that shows us how to use that verse in our daily lives. Not only do these verses give us a strong and vivid introduction to the Quran, they also help us go deeper into our own journey of remembrance, service, knowledge, and compassion. In times of rapid change, we need reminders of the timeless and the changeless. In times of conflict and division, we need bridges of hope and reconciliation to bring us together again. Remember Who You Are helps us remember our truth, goodness, and beauty so we can embody it more fully in the world. And it inspires us to build bridges so we can embrace and serve all people without exception.

Reviews

-I really, really loved it. It's the kind of book I'd like to read as a family with my teenagers - it gives them the practical application of Islam and would serve as a great jumping off point for lots of discussions. I also think it's something that can be read and re-read and reflected upon.- - Amanda Quraishi, blogger and activist-This is a lovely sort of 'devotional' for the Quran, which I've never seen before. It's also an excellent boost to my own Christian faith. Thank you so much for putting this out there in the world. We need it!- - Terra Elan McVoy, contemporary YA author-This is beautiful and much needed.- - Sabina Khan-Ibarra, writer

This book is a beautiful gift to the world. It invites us to receive gifts from Rahim's rich tradition of Islam, translated through his humane spirit and human experience. These gifts are offered without coercion of any kind. This book models the kind of spiritual generosity that, literally, can save the world. Each reading will fill you up and enrich your daily life. --Brian D. McLaren, Christian thinker and former pastor, author of We Make The Road By Walking and The Great Spiritual Migration Rahim Snow's collection of deeply personal, heartfelt meditations on 28 key verses of the Qur'an is a remarkably accessible and practical introduction to the ways that the everyday 'practice' of living and praying the Qur'an can profoundly inform and awaken each facet of our spiritual lives. As with the psalms (or other scriptures more familiar to most Western audiences) no special background or learned jargon is required: the illuminating practical lessons and insights evoked here are ones that emerge spontaneously and unavoidably in the course of each life's distinctive tests and challenges, in our ongoing, real-life interactions with these classic 'reminders' and their ever-present Source. In their refreshing directness, clarity, and immediate experiential basis, these moving insights into the dynamic influences and unfolding meanings of the Qur'an are more directly accessible, convincing and memorable than any number of translated classical sources, learned commentaries and interpretive volumes. Mr. Snow's gifts as a communicator are readily apparent: here readers from all backgrounds can encounter--in plain English that speaks directly to our common humanity-- something very close to the actual experience of the living Qur'an. --James W. Morris, Professor of Islamic Studies, author of The Reflective Heart: Discovering Spiritual Intelligence in Ibn 'Arabi's Meccan Illuminations Rahim Snow has written an inspiring and spiritually uplifting book about our collective humanity. These pages bring readers on an enriching journey through the heart of the Quran, a holy book which he beautifully illuminates with humility and grace. Snow highlights the mercy and compassion of the Islamic tradition in a way that will capture the heart and mind of people regardless of religious beliefs or backgrounds. His love for knowledge and universalism are impressive. In light of these turbulent times, this book serves as an antidote to the poisons of apathy and intolerance. --Dr. Craig Considine, author of Islam, Race, and Pluralism in the Pakistani Diaspora This is a timely book, illuminating the essential message of the Quran. Rahim Snow writes in accessible language, drawing out the spiritual wisdom at the heart of Islam for all truth seekers and offering practical advice on how to live a good life. --Marianne Rankin, author of An Introduction to Religious and Spiritual Experience I really, really loved it.
