Overview

This thesis deals with the development of a programme for the remediation investigation of decommissioned oil refineries, based on the results of the preliminary investigation and the detailed investigation. The thesis aims to provide scientific and technical assistance for the remediation process at old oil refinery sites. The content of this work, divided into site conditions, industry-specific pollutant characteristics, remediation methods and remediation objectives, provides insights into the professional assessment of contaminated sites in order to evaluate the potential hazards posed by old oil refineries from a technical and economic perspective. Based on the newly acquired knowledge, the relationships between remediation methods, pollutants and soil-specific properties are to be clarified.
