OverviewThe Saco Drive-in movie theater was an imperfect relic of the Southern Maine community. After 72 years of operation, the future looked grim. The theater was old and struggling to survive, unable to communicate its inner beauty to new audiences. It needed a savior, and that came in the form of the unlikeliest of individuals. A bright eyed, 21-year-old college student, Ry Russell made it his mission to preserve this piece of film history. By developing a new media strategy and bringing the drive-in to a younger audience through new media, Ry Russell was able to restore the theater to its rightful place as an icon of Americana. Using social media to build community, Ry and the greater community competed in a nationwide contest that would forever turn the Saco Drive-in back into the landmark it once was. This story details exactly how one individual, his family and his community restored a relic into an icon. Sit back, grab your popcorn and enjoy the show...
