Table of ContentsReviews"""This is a great, tense, imaginative read, in which the personal stakes for the characters are paramount... kept me reading with its double-pronged mysteries and pivotal character conflicts... it's a damned good read... Highly and enthusiastically recommended."" Deborah Davitt, author of The Sage Of Edda-Earth ""Action, tension and discovery culminates with an unexpected, yet perfect ending. A truly enjoyable and satisfying read."" William Ledbetter, Nebula winner and author of Level Five ""Refractions surprises you. The tautly plotted mystery evolves and deepens into an examination of the best and worst human behavior and impulses. Melcer's characters are complex and messy; her setting-a dying Earth, the nations that emerge from climate collapse-feels all too real... Recommended!"" K. Eason, author of Nightwatch Over Windscar and The Thorne Chronicles ""Refractions is a page-turning mystery that drills straight down to the human heart of a crisis... Melcer's complex, dynamic cast of characters move together through a direly realistic future: there's hope to be had, as long as someone's willing to pay its cost."" Aimee Ogden, author of Emergent Properties ""Refractions by M V Melcer catapults readers through an epic space adventure marked by shifting loyalties, a fight against exploitative capitalism, and testing the limits of humanity. This story is both majestic in scope and introspective in tone, as the diverse cast of characters careen through a sweeping space adventure."" TJ Berry, author of Space Unicorn Blues" Author InformationM V Melcer is a fiction writer and a filmmaker, with primary interest in science fiction and sometimes-accurate ponderings about the future. Born in Poland, MV has lived in the USA, the Netherlands and Belgium before settling in the United Kingdom. She inherited her passion for space and science-fiction from her father, who almost lost his life trying to replicate the feats of Sputnik and Gagarin using home-made rockets (he lost his hand, but it could have ended much worse). MV's dream of space-flight remained confined to the atmosphere, as she obtained a recreational pilot's licence (much safer!) To balance things out, she's also an avid scuba diver. Combining her first passion for science and literature, M V if following her MA in literature with a degree in astronomy and planetary sciences she's currently pursuing. M V wrote and directed several short films, which were successful at the festival circuits, screening in Europe, the USA, and Japan. Her short fiction has appeared in Clarkesworld, GigaNotoSurus, Daily Science Fiction, Nature Futures, and others. She lives south of London with her husband and Earl Grey, a not-very-smart tabby cat.
