Overview"Over the course of a few decades, the so-called Evangelicals have become somewhat well-known in the German-speaking world. In their self-portrayal, they often claim to belong to a ""third branch"" of the Reformation. Is this categorisation really justified? It may be true to some extent, but the Evangelicals present themselves as a range of different shades. However, this is no obstacle to the fact that they have somehow joined together in a network of alliances, whereby each affiliated congregation can cultivate its own peculiarities to a greater or lesser extent. The term ""free church"" seems to have several dimensions. Here, Evangelical Free Churches are examined from the perspective of the Reformation, whose best-known protagonists were Martin Luther and Jean Calvin, both of whom, interestingly, were initially not theologians but lawyers, even if Luther was only a trainee. This work sheds light on the most diverse aspects of this topic."
