Reflections From The Shadows

Overview

Reflections from the Shadows is a haunting and deeply honest collection of emotional writings gathered by Lisa over many years of her healing journey. Interwoven among these raw, expressive pieces are practical insights exploring topics from abuse tactics and mental health to personal growth and self-reclamation. Lisa shares not just her reflections, but her hard-won wisdom on recovery - illuminating the dark corners of trauma while offering pathways back to yourself. This is a book that honours the collapse as much as the rise, encouraging you to own your healing journey with compassion, resilience, and quiet courage.

Reviews

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating deep-dive into psychological states and conditions Reflections from the Shadows surprised me, in a good way. This work, while thematically dark, explores many notions that are vital to victim-survivors of abuse to understand for their healing. There were things I knew, in the book - passages about the symptoms of anxiety and depression, for example - but there were many things that I was aware of but did not have the terminology for. Learning about concepts such as 'flying monkeys' and 'grey rocking' was both fascinating and useful. The strong point of this work, for me, is the explorations of these concepts. The poetry is quite emotional, and, while it utilises imagery and figurative language well, it is best to proceed with care if you are in a vulnerable state as you may find this work triggering or difficult. Overall, it is a fascinating exploration of psychological notions and well worth a read.
